Passing the Great Lakes Compact
Since the Michigan legislature finally passed the Great Lakes Compact and all eight states and the two Canadian provinces have approved it, Congress needs to ratify it in order for the Great Lakes Compact to become enforceable. The state legislature needs to keep putting pressure on Congress to follow through on approving this compact. Additionally, the state legislature needs to also push Congress to approve funding to help restore the Great Lakes. It has been estimated that it will cost between $20 and $25 billion dollars to restore the Great Lakes, a worthwhile investment but one that cannot be entirely funded by Michigan. Michigan should pass a bond proposal to help raise funds to restore the Great Lakes, but it should also keep putting pressure on other Great Lakes states and Congress to do the same.
