Providing health insurance to the uninsured through the Governor’s Michigan First HealthCare Plan.

Through the Governor’s Michigan First Healthcare Plan, I believe there is potential to possibly cover a large number of people who do not currently have health insurance. The plan basically would set certain standards for what an insurance plan should cover and then allow private providers to conform providers’ plans to these standards. This will allow for low-income citizens to be able to compare plans much easier. Also, the premiums that citizens will play will be determined on a sliding scale with only those making fewer than 200% of the poverty line being eligible for these plans. I do believe that this plan could be expanded to allow more low-income citizens to be eligible for these plans. I also am not sure that this plan will be the final cure-all for helping all people that have no health insurance, but I think we should give it a try and then consider all possible solutions.
